One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

Virginia Woolf, one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century, said it, not me…. BUT ITS TRUE.

Being a college student, I balance eating like crap (living off oatmeal, popcorn and nutrition bars) with eating like a functioning member of society (cooking and eating in restaurants).  Eating the foods you love is a comfort.  Decadence is a luxury.  Desserts can only bring happiness.  Food = family.  The most sure way to make a good impression is bringing a treat with you to someone’s house.  I have never met someone who hates food or has no weak spot for a great meal.  Of course, there are healthy people, and on the 8th day of the week I try to be healthy too, but even the people with the best will power can appreciate their favorite foods every now and then.

This blog is going to be good.  So keep reading… Now I will end with a few quotes about life and food.  Salute!

If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.          – Cesar Chavez

My weaknesses have always been food and men – in that order.          – Dolly Parton

Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner.          – Sofia Loren

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.          – Harriet van Horne

Did you ever stop to taste a carrot? Not just eat it, but taste it? You can’t taste the beauty and energy of the earth in a Twinkie.          – Astrid Alauda

One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.          – Luciano Pavarotti

This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook- try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun!          – Julia Child
(the last one is my favorite!)  Buon Appetito!
